Matawaia Marae is situated approximately 4o kms inland from Moerewa, and has been a long standing marae within Ngatihine. 

Different from how it sits today, Rangimarie (Wharenui) was actually facing east toward Miria (Wharekai). 

Matawaia Marae has had many changes and additions since its first existance and now stands together with Kaumatua flats and Te Kohanga Reo o Matawaia.

Together we stand united to compliment and enhance the future of Matawaia and its people.
